Coimbatore
Vedha Subramaniam of Vadavalli, who fell prey to the fraudster, said he got introduced to a man identified as Eswar through an astrologer. Eswar claimed that he was an IRS official and promised to help him get a job in the Central Excise department.Â
Eswar demanded Rs 15 lakh to get the job for Vedha Subramaniam. In his petition to Superintendent of Police Pa Murthy on Monday, Vedha Subramaniam claimed that he believed the words of Eswar as he showed photos of him with top politicians in Tamil Nadu and several government officials.Â
The complainant had paid Rs 11 lakh and promised to give the remaining amount later.Â
Following a formal interview, an appointment order was issued to Vedha appointing him as an intelligence officer in the Department of Revenue, Customs, and Central Excise. Vedha was also given an identity card with his name as an intelligence officer in the department. The accused person then rented a house, which he claimed to be the central excise branch office and conducted training for about 35 people. The training session was meant to be for six months and the trainees were informed that they would be paid a salary of Rs 27,760.Â
Curiously, everyone received their first-month salary, though Eswar suddenly claimed that he had been transferred to Chennai as punishment for making shady deals in employing the staff.Â
While leaving Coimbatore, he said he would return in a few months. After this, Eswar was unreachable and the recruits realised they had been taken for a ride. The appointment orders given to them turned out to be fake.Â
On receiving a complaint, the SP ordered an inquiry. Police suspect that the accused had collected several lakhs from each of the victims and the total amount could run into crores of rupees in the job scam. Special teams that have formed to investigate the case have launched a hunt for Eswar and his associates.
