More than 1.5 lakh candidates had registered online for TNEA this year. The certificate verification was held in 42 student facilitation centres set up by Anna University across the State.
Giving the exact number, sources from the University on Monday told DT Next that of the total of 1,59,631 students, who registered through online, 49,781 candidates did not turn up for the certificate verification process. The absentee candidates will not be eligible to attend counselling, which will be held on the first week of July, sources added. Accordingly, this year only about 1.10 lakh students will be called for the counselling.
Last year about 1.3 lakh students had registered. Of the total, only about 87,000 came for the counselling.
Meanwhile, sources said soon after the release of merit list on June 28, a week would be reserved for addressing applicants’ grievances.
Of the total applications received by the TNEA, 98,115 were boys and 59,299 were girls. Under the special categories, 7,004 are from sports category, 320 are from differently-abled category, while 2,171 are wards of ex-servicemen.
The number of first generation graduates who have registered were 83,727, the sources added.
