In the recently conducted National Yoga competition at Puducherry, Veerapandi won the silver medal and was selected to represent India at the International Yoga Convention and Competition to be held at Singapore in July. The participation fees is Rs 2 lakh.

However, shortage of funds has now forced the boy to knock on the doors of the government. Addressing the media, Veerapandi said that he has been practicing Yoga since 2013 and can perform more than 200 asanas. He also said that his parents are daily wage earners and someone should sponsor him.

Along with Yoga, he also started practicing Mallar Kambam and Gymnastics and won several prizes. One of his school teachers Ramesh, noticed Veerapandi’s passion and took him to several competitions. At one such event, he had created a world record by performing 100 asanas lying on a bed of nails.

Praising the boy’s extraordinary talent, Ramesh said that Veerapandi is a natural and hardly needs practice. Since he won a silver medal at a national event on his own, with the government’s help he can definitely win gold for India at the international event.
