It is said that as many as 301 boats venture into the sea from Mallipattinam and Sethupavachathiram boat jetties in Thanjavur.

The mechanised boats go for fishing on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, while the country-made boats venture on the remaining days.

However, for the past two days, the coastal regions had witnessed heavy wind and therefore, as many as 220 boats did not go for fishing.

On Thursday around 2 pm, a severe wind flowing along the coastal areas swept through the region and as a result, two boats were capsized at Mallipattinam.

One of the boats belonged to one Balasubramanian of Kallivayal thottam, while the other one belonged to Subramanian from the same place.

On information, the owners along with the fellow fishermen rushed to the spot and attempted to save the sinking boats.

However, they could not go further ahead but continued to put in effort to recover the boats.
