Green Corridor: Farmers reject government’s Rs 9 crore per hectare offer

Meanwhile, stating that a majority of farmers are ready to give away their lands for the proposed Green Corridor Project, Bhajibhakare said that a maximum of Rs 9.04 crore will be given as compensation per hectare of land. The Collector also made an appeal to the farmers and the public to stop protesting against the upcoming project, cliaming that it would have no adverse effects.

“Free house site pattas will be given and efforts are being taken to build houses under the state and central government schemes for villagers, whose houses are affected in the acquisition process. Houses will be built under the solar-powered ‘Pasumai Veedu thittam’ and under PM’s house for all scheme,” the Collector added. 

“Almost 90 per cent of patta landowners have lent full co-operation to the land acquisition process. Only ten per cent of farmers are demanding a higher compensation, but they too have agreed to part with their land, if the amount is increased,” she said. 

The Collector said that a maximum of Rs 9.04 crore will be given as compensation per hectare and the minimum amount is Rs 21.52 lakh. She also added that 248 hectares of private, poramboke and forest land will be acquired from 20 villages in Salem district. 

Elaborating further, the Collector said that a maximum of Rs 50,000 will be paid for each coconut tree, Rs 30,000 for mango tree (hybrid) and Rs 13,000 for native trees, Rs 4,200 for guava tree, Rs 9,375 for tamarind tree, Rs 8,477 for areca nut tree and Rs 5,000 for palm tree.

Three women, whose lands were acquired for the road project, were given free land pattas by the Collector.
