On hearing news about teacher Anbu’s transfer to another school, students boycotted their classes. The protesting students, who were supported by their parents, demanded that Anbu should be retained in the Devanur school itself.

“Anbu, a proactive teacher maintained good relationship with students. Through his effective guidance, he helped students to improve their academic performance,” one of the parents said.

Police and school education department officials reached the spot and tried to pacify the protesting students.

When contacted, Chief Education Officer V Jayakumar told DT Next that Anbu was transferred to maintain the student-teacher ratio.

“As the Devanur school only had 186 students, it was against rules to have 8 teachers in that institution. Hence, Anbu, who was handling science, was transferred to another school.”

Stating that the school could get an additional teacher only if 50 new students were admitted, Jayakumar said, “In that case, there is a chance for Anbu to be retained in the same school at Devanur.”

Meanwhile, bowing to emotional protests by students of a Tiruvallur school, the transfer order of a English teacher Bhagwan has been withdrawn.
