Sadhuperi dump yard to be cleared ahead of Smart City project
An estimated 2 lakh cubic metre of garbage, at present lying in the closed corporation dump yard at Saduperi, on the outskirts of Vellore town would be removed shortly, corporation commissioner C Vijayakumar said.

Talking to DTNext, the Commissioner said, “the garbage will be segregated mechanically according to their degradable level to be converted into fertilizer and the non-degradable plastic, will be incinerated.”
“The process, which will go on for a year, will start once the modalities are worked out. After the garbage is cleared, we will decide how to make use of the site.”
In addition to the garbage, the yard was also being used to park worn out lorries along with the bins. Locals are excited over the civic body’s proposed garbage clearance plan and they have offered to extend all possible help as the move would free their area of stench, permanently.
S Palanisamy, director of town panchayats, accompanied by collector SA Raman and corporation engineer Suresh Kumar and health officer Manivannan inspected the dump yard.
Palaniswamy was in the Fort City to attend a meeting for the proposed smart city project. Earlier, the local body had sent several proposals for this project and was awaiting government’s approval to start the work.
The director of town panchayats, who also visited the Vellore Fort, held discussions with the ASI (Archeological Survey of India) officials on ways to improve and renovate the edifice as part of the smart city project.
When asked whether the state government would be allowed interfere in the activities of ASI, which is a central government undertaking, Vijayakumar said, “we already held talks with ASI officials and they were ready to support all activities related to the development of the fort.”
