Nirmala Devi, assistant professor at a private college at Arupukkottai, was caught speaking in an audio tape allegedly luring students of her college to extend sexual favours to higher officials of the MKU.

Following the leak of the tape, Nirmala Devi was arrested and in the CB-CID investigation she confessed that Murugan, assistant professor at MKU, and Karuppasamy helped her.

When Nirmala Devi, Murugan and Karuppasamy applied for bail in the Srivilliputhur sessions court, their petitions were rejected and hence Karuppasamy had approached the High Court.

However, the CB-CID objected to the bail petition and argued that there was enough proof against Karuppasamy. Earlier, when judge GR Swaminathan heard the petition on Monday, counsel for Karuppasamy sought a day’s time and on  Tuesday, the counsel withdrew the bail petition.
