2 more from Tirupur held in counterfeit currency racket
Police on Tuesday arrested two more members of the fake note racket, which they had busted in June, and seized counterfeit currency with a face value of Rs 10,000.
Coimbatore
The arrested persons Uday Prakash (34) and Vijayakumar (35), both of Tirupur district and working in a private firm there, had procured the fake currency printing machine for S Kidhar Mohammed (62), the kingpin of the racket, who has already been arrested.Â
Police busted the fake currency racket with the arrest of a person during a vehicle check in Coimbatore on June 1. The police had seized Rs 1.18 crore of fake currencies from the printing unit used by the gang.Â
Mohammed’s accomplice Sundar (38) later surrendered before the Judicial Magistrate court. On questioning, the three arrested persons confessed to the police that they procured the printing machine from Uday Prakash and Vijayakumar in Tirupur.Â
The police then launched a hunt for the two persons. Following their arrest on Tuesday, the duo was brought to Coimbatore. During the inquiry, they revealed that more fake currencies were stocked at a house belonging to a friend of Sundar in Kinathukadavu near Pollachi.Â
Police then carried out a search and seized fake notes of Rs 10,000, in the denomination of Rs 2000. Several bundles of white papers meant for printing the notes were also seized. Police are on the lookout for Sundar’s friend, who has gone underground.
