Impressed upon PM to hold CWMA meet: TN Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami
The state has impressed upon the Centre to convene the Cauvery Water Management Authority meeting immediately to initiate steps to release the due share of water to Tamil Nadu, said Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami here on Monday.

Speaking to reporters on the way to Mayiladuthurai Cauvery success meeting scheduled in Nagapattinam district, the Chief Minister said, he had impressed upon the Prime Minister to convene a meeting of the CWMA, as the members for both CWMA and the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee have been appointed by Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry.
“Only Karnataka has been delaying in making the appointment.
We have insisted the Centre to instruct Karnataka government to appoint its members soon and ensure the due share of water for Tamil Nadu and the requests were put forth to the Water Resources and River Development Minister Nitin Gadkari and also to the Prime Minister,” the Chief Minister said.
Addressing the Cauvery success meeting at Mayiladuthurai, the Chief Minister said, the party had won a hard fought victory in a struggle which lasted over 30 years. The victory is a result of the struggles and measures undertaken by chief ministers like the late MGR and ‘Amma’ over the years. “Now, the opposition parties like DMK have nothing to do in politics.
So, they have resorted to a situation on why Tamil Nadu government has not released water from Mettur Dam. We have come so close and we have almost won. By God’s grace, the water will be released from Mettur Dam very soon,” said the Chief Minister.
EPS also came upon heavily on DMK, its president M Karunanidhi and its working president. The working president (MK Stalin) had waited for every chance at every turn to walk out of Assembly session or stage a protest for not releasing water. “But, actually, we had taken every step to battle it out for Cauvery, it’s him, his father and his party were the ones which had given up over the Cauvery issue repeatedly,” he added.
Responding to the reports on TTV Dhinakaran’s camp members expressing their willingness to re-join the AIADMK, Palaniswami, the party’s joint co-ordinator, welcomed the idea. But, he made it clear that the members would not be given any plum post in the party as well as the government. “They are welcome and it would be appreciable but at the same time, legally they are not entitled to be given any posts in the party as well as in the government,” he added.
