Teachers will also be provided the requisite training to work accordingly in the upgraded setup. Department sources here said that a survey was conducted about the distribution of secondary and higher secondary schools and it was found that in some districts students had to travel a lot regularly to attend their classes.

The official said that the findings also revealed that transportation takes a turn for the worse during the monsoon. “During the first phase, a total of 100 primary schools, which were identified by the authorities during the survey, will be converted into secondary schools,” he said.

He said that the upgradation of these schools included construction or betterment of infrastructural facilities like extra classrooms, toilets and furniture.

“In addition to that, teachers’ recruitment also needs to be done during the same period,” he added.

“Upgradation of schools will provide access to schools in the immediate neighbourhood and that would in turn ensure high attendance,” he said adding that the civil and other infrastructure works will start in few weeks.

The official said that the government measure of upgrading schools will ensure more new student’s admission. “Those who had dropped out are expected to re-join to purse higher studies,” he added.
