Teen burnt alive over love affair

V Nandhini of Kulithalai block was working in a company in Dindigul district under the guardianship of her uncle Raju (58), according to sources. 

During her stay in her uncle’s place, she had a relationship with a man from the same area. Despite Raju refusing to accept her love, she continued with it.

Meanwhile, Nandhini came to her home in Kulithalai recently and told her parents about her relationship. While they accepted it as the boy belonged to the same community, Raju opposed it. On Wednesday morning, Raju asked Nandhini to come to a place nearby. When she reached there, Raju poured petrol on her and set her ablaze. He too caught fire in the incident.

On hearing her cries for help, residents rushed to the spot and admitted them in the Kulithalai GH. As Nandhini sustained severe burns she was referred to the Tiruchy GH. However, she succumbed. Raju was initially booked under an attempt to murder case and later it was changed to murder charges following Nandhini’s death.
