New IG South to visit Thoothukudi

After the May 22 police firing in Thoothukudi in which 13 people died, the government was forced to act against the officials who were in-charge during the incident and the first person to face the heat was Shailesh Kumar Yadav, IG (South Zone).

In a recent transfer order issued by the government, Shailesh Kumar Yadav was transferred and Shanmuga Rajeswaran was appointed as the IG. Shanmuga Rajeswaran said he would accord importance to the intelligence section as it can prevent any major incident. He also said that importance would be given to community policing and people should cooperate with police in maintaining law and order. He provided his mobile phone number (9498198199) and asked the public to contact him round-the-clock in case of any emergency.

New Commissioner of Police (CoP) for Madurai Corporation, Davidson Devasirvatham, took charge on Wednesday. Addressing the media, Devasirvatham also said he would give importance to community policing and sought the cooperation of the public in crime detection. He added that prime importance would be given to the welfare of policemen and they would be given more leave and rest.
