Releasing the schedule of board exams in 2019, the minister said Class 12 exams would begin from March 1 and end on March 19. Results would be announced on April 19. Likewise, the Class 11 board exams would be held from March 6 to March 22.

Results would be declared on May 8. For Class 10, the exams would be conducted between March 14 and 29 and the results will be announced on April 29.

“Since students have to write exams for only six subjects this year, steps are being taken to announce the results 10 days before the usual date,” Sengottaiyan said. The School Education department’s move to scrap paper II for languages comes in the backdrop of the request made by parents to reduce language papers to one. A decision was taken by the minister after recent high-level committee meeting.

“We consulted teachers, parents and academicians before deciding on reducing the language papers. The new measure will not only reduce the burden on students, but also bring down the working hours for school teachers,” the minister pointed out.

On the free coaching for NEET for government school students, Sengottaiyan said more centres would be opened this year. “The training for NEET will start by July end,” he added.

The minister pointed out that the new curriculum for Class 11 students will cover more than 40 per cent of syllabus that can help candidates appearing for competitive exams. The minister also said the State government has taken steps to set up more than 5,000 smart classes in government school this year.
