    Plea to rescue wife from Nithyananda

    A farmer from Namakkal petitioned the Collector on Monday urging him to rescue his wife from the custody of the self-styled godman Nithyananda.

    Ramasamy, a farmer from Muniappampalayam village near Rasipuram, who came to the the weekly grievance day meet held at the collectorate and handed over a petition to Collector Asia Mariam.

    In his petition, Ramasamy claimed that his wife Athaayi and son Palanisamy joined the meditation class at the Nithyananda ashram in Bengaluru on March 26. However, they didn’t return home even after the completion of the 21day course. The farmer had earlier lodged a complaint with the local police, who rescued his son and brought him home.

    Ramsamy believes that his wife was still in the ashram. “I haven’t heard anything from her so far. Ever her phone is not reachable. I doubt whether she is alive,” he said.

    He further said that his wife had taken Rs 10 lakh as loan from a bank and a private financial firm. She had also pledged jewels for Rs 30,000 in her name.

    “The bank officials are now pestering me to return the money. My wife had taken away all the cash while going to the meditation class in Nithyananda ashram,” he said.

    The farmer claimed that he was under severe depression and sought the officials to intervene and rescue his wife.
