The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court, on Monday, directed all Adheenams across the state to furnish their property details to the state’s Registration Department.

Petitioner, Radhakrishnan, from Chennai, in his petition, had stated that large number of people had donated land for Adheenams and temples but the land had eventually been encroached and the Adheenams have no control over it.
The Sengol Adheenam has several acres of land in Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli districts but all of it has now been encroached. Due to this there is no revenue and no social work could be undertaken recently. He had submitted a petition to Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments(HR&CE) Department to recover the land but no action was taken.
During the hearing chaired by Justices Duraisamy and Sundar, the petitioner’s counsel argued that the 55,820 acres of land of the Adeenams across the state generates no revenue and has resulted in an overall disruption of their life. The court directed the Adeenams to furnish their property details in three weeks and adjourned the petition.
