Chennai
In a statement, Kamal said that he is in support of all legitimate and legal movements that fight for the rights of the people on the issue of getting the rightful share of Cauvery water.
The farmers’ association has called for a day-long hunger strike led by PR Pandian, president of the Coordination Committee of All Tamil Nadu Farmers Association demanding the declaration of the Cauvery delta as protected agricultural zone.
Kamal said that though he does not believe in hunger strikes, he extends his wholehearted support for the cause.
He added that he is unable to participate because of prior commitments.
Kamal Haasan has been a proactive figure in the Cauvery water sharing dispute between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
His recent visit to Karnataka to call on newly elected Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy to discuss the issue and foster dialogue between the states received mixed reactions in the state.
