Pondy govt plans insurance for electricity dept workers
The Puducherry administration would introduce an insurance scheme for the workers of the Electricity Department so that they would be compensated adequately in case of accidental death, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy told the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday

Replying to a special mention by DMK member R Siva, who highlighted the death of an Electricity Department worker recently at Nellithope constituency, Narayanasamy announced a solatium of Rs 2 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to the family of staffer Kalidass.Â
He said Kalidass fell down when he accidentally touched a live wire, while repairing a fault.Â
He added that Kalidass’ wife died two months ago due to cancer and they have two children. He assured a job to the ward of the electrician.Â
Education Minister R Kamalakannan said an announcement about the scheme would be made in the current session itself.
