More than 20,000 Class 12 students from government school were trained in 412 NEET centres across the state.

The government also established nine NEET hostel centres where the students were offered free food and stay.

In addition, the state also tied up with many coaching companies to train the students.

Educative videos and NEET question paper banks were distributed among the students.

Even school education minister, KA Sengottaiyan, had recently claimed that more than 1,000 students, who were trained in government coaching centres, would become doctors.

But, a government trainer from education department, seeking anonymity, said that most of the students from rural areas could not crack NEET.

“A few hundred students may get through.

I heard several students from my class did not qualify,” he said.

According to him, the poor performance was due to the short duration of the government course. “The students need to be trained for NEET from Class 11,” he added.

Meanwhile, the principal secretary, of the department, Pradeep Yadav, said that they are in the process of getting the exact figures of the government school students who took NEET.
