Decide on pending case against H Raja, police told
Wondering as to why the complaint against BJP leader H Raja over his comments on DMK president Karunanidhi’s daughter is kept pending, the Madras High Court has directed the Nelampur Police to register a case if a cognisable offence is made out.
Chennai
Justice N Sathishkumar, before whom the petition came up on Thursday said, “The police should either register a case if cognizable offence is made out or close the same if prima facie case is not made out. There is no reason as to why it should be kept pending.”
K R Kukesh, President of Tamil Nadu Isai Vellalargal Nala Sangam, Mugappair West, had contended that Raja’s post on Twitter alleging Rajya Sabha MP and DMK president Karunanidhi’s daughter Kanimozhi as an illegitimate child born out of illegitimate relationship had spoilt the social reputation of both the father and daughter.
Stating that the post is a defamatory one and an offence against the modesty of women, the petitioner said that a complaint to the police in this regard was handed over to the police on April 23 and on their refusal to accept it was sent by post on April 24.
This was received by the inspector on April 26. But till date no steps have been taken by the police and hence sought for a direction to register a case based on his complaint.
