Gang ties up guard, escapes with red sanders from Ranipet forest office
An unidentified gang tied up the security guard and fled with red sanders logs worth Rs 5 lakh from the office of the Ranipet forest range officer (FRO) on Monday night.
Vellore
Sources revealed that 17 red sanders logs weighing nearly 750 kg were seized in Walajahpet by former FRO Vijayan three months ago. The seized logs were later shifted to the forest range office at Ranipet.Â
On Monday night, when security guard Sampath (59) was on duty, a four-member gang that came to the forest range office tied his hands and legs before locking him inside a room. The gang then loaded the seized red sanders into their vehicle and escaped from the spot.Â
On hearing the cries of Sampath, Ranipet police inspector Saravanan, who lived in the police quarters located nearby rushed to the office and untied Sampath. He then informed the forest department staff who came to the office and confirmed that the seized logs have been taken away by the gang. Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.Â
