Leaders who visited injured in hosp booked for violating Sec 144
Political leaders, including DMK working president MK Stalin, who visited Thoothukudi GH to console the injured people and their kin, were booked on Thursday for violating the stipulations of Section 144, which was imposed in the city.

The prohibitory orders were initially clamped on May 21 to cull the protest announced by the anti-Sterlite protesters. Following the imposition of Section 144, protestors retaliated with violence, which was followed by police firing which has led to the deaths of 13 persons till now. Tense situation prevails in the port city.
The prohibitory orders were extended till May 27, during which period not more than five people can assemble in public. But the political leaders including, Stalin, MDMK leader Vaiko, Congress state president Su Thirunavukkarasar, VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan and actor turned politician Kamal Haasan, visited Thoothukudi GH with a huge crowd. They were booked on charges of violating the prohibitory orders under section 143, 153B and 188 of Code of the Criminal Procedure (CrPC), by Thoothukudi South Police. Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam leader TTV Dhinakaran, will also be booked for violating these orders. Since the situation in Thoothukudi has not eased, the officials are considering an extension of Section 144.
