Form Cauvery authority immediately: All-party meet
The all-party meeting led by DMK resolved that the ruling AIADMK should take steps on a war-footing to constitute the Cauvery Water Management Authority instead of waiting till June 1.

The meeting chaired by DMK working president MK Stalin at Anna Arivalayam also urged the Centre to act immediately to release Cauvery water for Kuruvai cultivation in Tamil Nadu.Â
Condemning the AIADMK regime for cooperating with the BJP-led government at the Centre and not opposing the Cauvery Management Authority proposed in the revised draft scheme through another resolution, the all-party meeting accused the state government of not pressing for an autonomous Cauvery Management Board that was suggested by the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal in its final verdict.Â
The opposition parties also demanded the state to make efforts to open Mettur Dam on the customary date of June 12 for kuruvai cultivation. The parties also urged the Prime Minister’s office to recall the order proposing allocation of cadre to UPSC recruits based on performance in foundation course, abolishing the existing practice.Â
Alleging that the proposal was an attempt to spoil the civil service dreams of OBC and SC/ST youth, the meeting insisted to continue the practice of allocating cadre based on the UPSC exam results.Â
Accusing the PMO of vesting the fate of innumerable youth in the hands of a handful of professors in the Mussouri training institute and destroying social justice principles, the DMK led opposition threatened to mobilise youth and organise statewide agitations if the Centre does heed their demand.Â
The parties also cautioned that they would undertake a nationwide campaign if the Centre does not drop its proposed policy of allowing National Institute of Open Schooling to admit students proficient in Sanskrit directly to grade X without normal previous schooling.Â
On the pretext of Indian Knowledge Tradition, the BJP was promoting Sanskrit and spoiling the education system in the country, one of the resolutions alleged and threatened to organise a nationwide campaign if the Centre fails to withdraw the policy.
