Tiruvannamalai plans steps to boost Class 12 pass rate
After the Class 12 pass percentage in Tiruvannamalai district dropped to 87.97 per cent this year from 91.84 in 2017, the district administration has decided to take several initiatives in an effort to improve the performance level in the coming year.

While nine government schools registered cent per cent results last year, only one school was able to achieve the feat this year. Taking serious note of these figures, the district administration and education department have formulated some serious steps, including increasing the attention on below-average students, according to Tiruvannamalai CEO R Jayakumar.
Speaking to DTNext, Jayakumar told, “We have identified 90 government and 46 private schools which have failed to produce satisfactory results.”
The department would also encourage the 3,428 failed students to clear the supplementary examinations that would begin on June 25. If they have failed in more subjects and don’t want to continue, we would train them in vocational skills like repair & service of mobile phone and electrical appliances, Jayakumar added.
Stating that the district administration has already began talks with trainers for this purpose, he said, “Students who want to write their arrears will be given special coaching from June 1.”
“These special camps will ensure that students are given counselling and don’t discontinue their education,” Collector Kandasamy said.
Meanwhile, steps were also being taken to increase the admission in government schools this year. The government school teachers have been told to visit houses of students with a two-and-ahalf-minute video, which has been uploaded on Facebook and WhatsApp.
Regarding the proposed move to shut government schools with poor strength, officials said they have not received any order yet.
