DMK to invite alliance leaders for MK’s mega b’day bash in Tiruvarur

The principal opposition party DMK will parade its allies on June 1 when it will organise a mega rally at Tiruvarur to celebrate party president M Karunanidhi’s 95th birthday. Leaders of alliance parties, who join hands with the DMK for public welfare, would participate in the rally, DMK working president MK Stalin wrote in his letter to party cadre on Monday

The rally would be chaired by DMK general secretary K Anbazhagan, who has been with Karunanidhi throughout his political life, said Stalin, who would participate in the event as son and another cadre of the DMK. The party has announced half a dozen meetings in delta districts to popularise the June 1 rally in Tiruvarur.

Alleging that the minorities were living in the grip of fear and even majority Hindus were grief-stricken, Stalin said the rights of people of non-BJP ruled states were being denied irrespective of whether they are Hindus or others.

“Hindi is being thrust on them. It is shocking that people are being beaten to death even for consuming the food appropriate to their culture and physical requirement,” Stalin said, apparently taking a veiled dig at the BJP regime for a spate of lynching of minorities and Dalits in north India for allegedly consuming and carrying beef.

“Even thinkers and scholars in other states only recall the name of our leader Karunanidhi under such disturbing times,” Stalin remarked. It was for this reason that people of various walks, irrespective of political differences, visit Gopalapuram to inquire about Karunanidhi’s health, Stalin asserted, appealing to the cadre to turn up in large numbers for the mega rally in Tiruvarur.
