Construction worker held under POCSO Act for impregnating girl

According to police, accused Kumar, a construction labourer from Podanur, had sexually exploited the 15-year-old girl, studying Class 8, by threatening to hurl acid on her.

“The accused had initially proposed his love to the victim, who is residing in his neighbouring house. When she rejected his romantic overtures, Kumar had threatened to kill her by throwing acid. He then forced the girl to yield to his sexual desires and raped her multiple times, whenever her parents were away,” police said.

Based on a complaint by the girl’s parents, the All Women’s Police Station (AWPS) registered a case and arrested the accused under the POCSO Act and under other relevant sections for issuing threats.

The victim is likely to be subjected to a medical examination at a government hospital and would also be counselled, said police.

Inquiries revealed that Kumar, a native of Ooty was also involved in theft cases in Kothagiri. He confessed to police to have harassed many women by sending obscene pictures through WhatApp.
