In a statement on Sunday, PMK founder S Ramadoss, said the Supreme Court had already directed the Centre to prepare a draft scheme and under such circumstances, it is shocking that the Centre failed to convene a cabinet meeting.

“This is a clear indication that the Centre is taking double standard and even after the court order Prime Minister Narendra Modi has gone on a visit to Nepal and this implies to stop preparing a draft scheme,” he said and added that there is no need for approval from the Cabinet for a draft and even the Supreme Court hinted this earlier.

Stating that the Centre was clear that the Tamil Nadu government should not benefit from Cauvery issue, Ramadoss said, “It is only Modi government, which is committing betrayal to the Tamil Nadu, to a larger extent and the apex court should not allow the Centre to continue with such a betrayal.”

The Supreme Court had already directed Singh to appear before the court at 10.30 am and if he failed to submit a draft scheme, the court should consider it as ‘contempt’ and order for his arrest, he pointed out.

Similarly, R Mutharasan, CPI state secretary, exuded confidence that if the Centre did not table a draft scheme, it should consider it as ‘contempt’ and should take strong action. “Even as the court postponed the hearing in the water dispute, the Centre should have taken necessary steps to sort out the long pending dispute,” Mutharasan noted.
