Actor Rajinikanth, in his recent speech, said that his wish was to interlink south Indian rivers. When Sellur Raju was asked whether Rajinikanth is trying to come to power (Atchi) with the inter-linking of rivers issue, the Minister replied that Rajinikanth can catch only ‘Achi’ (elderly women around Karaikudi) and not ‘Atchi.’
However, the comment on ‘Achi’ did not go well with the members of Nagarathar community, who expressed anguish over the comment of the Minister. Sellur Raju was also criticised by the members of the community on the social media.
Following the brickbats, the Minister took a U-turn on the issue and said that his comment was misinterpreted by the media. “I referred only about actress Manorama ‘Achi’ in my speech,” said Sellur Raju.
He also said that he had good links with members of Nagarathar community and there are lots of people in the community who had worked for the society. “I am a person who moves well with all sections of people and people know me well. My comment on ‘Achi’ was misinterpreted and I regret for hurting their (Nagarathar) sentiments,” said Sellur Raju.
