    New textbooks with QR codes for competitive exams released

    The much-awaited colourful textbooks carrying new syllabus with (quick response) QR codes for Classes 1, 6, 9 and 11 was released on Friday by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.

    The new syllabus, which was prepared by academicians and experts, is expected to help the students to face competitive exams, such as JEE and NEET. 

    “The textbooks are embedded with QR codes, which will lead to high resolution visual contents of the subject with practical explanation. The textbook was prepared taking competitive exams, such as NEET and JEE, into account,” School Education Secretary, Curriculum, T Udhayachandran told DT Next, after the launch. 

    Stating that the textbooks have come out well in content, design and development, he said QR codes were incorporated in each chapter of the books. 

    According to him, the textbooks especially for Class 11 students were prepared based on questions asked in the competitive exams. “It will enable them (students) to face the exams in a confident manner. They can also answer even if the questions were twisted in the exams,” he said. 

    The School Education Secretary said that the Class 11 textbooks for both Science and Commerce subjects will also contain career guidance in the first page itself. 

    “Students can find their suitable higher studies, various exams, list of institutions and availability of scholarships programme in the career guidance pages,” the official said adding, “This is an attempt to make the students to think on their own about their future programmes.” 

    As the printing of the textbooks was almost over, the students would be able to get them in the second week of May. 

    “More than 80 lakh copies were printed. It will be delivered to all the government and aided schools across the state,” a senior official from the Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation said. 

    “The textbooks will be uploaded immediately on the web and it can be downloaded by the students any time,” he added. Stating that the syllabus had not changed for the past one decade and it was decided to revamp the curriculum by last July, the official said, “The students should take up new challenges on the national horizon and it is the solemn duty of the government to address this need on a war-footing.” 

    He also said that the new syllabus for Class 2, 7, 10 and 12 will be released in 2019-20. Similarly, in 2020-2021, the new syllabus for Class 3, 4, 5, and eight will be launched.
