Ajith fan killed over political rivalry
A function organised to celebrate the birthday of actor Ajith Kumar by his fans in Tirupattur turned tragic, after a 22-yearold youth was stabbed to death by another person on Tuesday night.
Vellore
Aravindan (22) of Anna Nagar was working at a beef stall owned by Satish Kumar (36). Both were members of Dravidar Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party. However, Aravindan recently shifted his allegiance to the VCK and this led to enmity between them.
With both being hardcore fans of Ajith, a function was organised on Tuesday to celebrate the actor’s 47th birthday. A verbal altercation broke out between Aravindan and Kumar after the former started the celebrations by cutting a cake. The fight soon escalated, leading to Satish pulling out a knife and stabbing Aravindan. He was taken to the Tirupattur Government Hospital and later referred to the Dharmapuri Government Hospital. However, Aravindan died on the way to Dharmapuri.Â
On hearing the news of Aravindan’s death, aggrieved relatives set Kumar’s shop on fire and pelted stones on vehicles passing through that area. Glass panes of at least three cars were damaged in the incident. They also damaged some two-wheelers that were parked nearby. Tirupattur fire and rescue service personnel put out the blaze at the beef stall, while police rushed to the area and brought the situation under control.Â
Relatives of the deceased also blocked road demanding justice for Aravindan’s death. Revenue department personnel and police officers persuaded them to disperse from the spot by promising action against Kumar. Two special teams have been formed to nab the culprit who is still at large. Further investigations are on.
