Soon, an app to help Chennai railway division staff air grievances
Employees of Southern Railway may no longer have to hold placards and raise the banner of revolt to air their grievances. Soon, the Southern Railway would introduce an exclusive app which would enable the 26,000 odd employees of the Chennai Railway Division to register their grievance using their mobile phones.

All that the employees have to do is text or log in to the portal or if they are too laidback to do even that, just give a missed call to a number from their registered phone number.
Employees can send a brief text message of their grievance to a three-digit number, which is being worked out by the personnel department, or log on to the portal and enter their complaint.
Employees who give missed calls would receive a callback from the department concerned.
Personnel has classified the departments into five separate departments.
“If the grievance is related to settlement or arrears or financial anomaly, it would be forwarded to the bills section. If it is promotion, another department. We have created five separate departments to forward the complaints. The grievance aired by an employee would be followed up by the department concerned,” revealed a senior Southern Railway officer on the condition of anonymity.
More than 15,000 of the 26,000-odd employees of the Chennai division have already registered their numbers.
The rest would be covered subsequently and the app under ‘construction’ launched in six months, the officer added.
A lower version of a similar employee’s grievance app would be launched on Tuesday as a May Day gift in north India.
“Ours is an advanced version. We are providing three different platforms. After developing the app, it will be tested in Chennai and shared with other divisions,” the officer added.
Earlier, the Railway Board had written to all General Managers on April 12 advising them to immediately contact a Senior Divisional Personnel Officer of New Delhi (nodal division) for working out linkages and uploading required data through user ID and password.
