Techie tries to murder PG student in Chidambaram
Onlookers hurl stones at attacker save post-graduate scholar near Annamalai University campus.

In the continuing cases of violence against women, a 27-year-old techie working in Chennai tried to kill a woman by slashing her neck at Annamalai University in Chidambaram on Monday morning.
Lavanya, the victim, a final year PG student of horticulture in the university, was saved by onlookers, who hurled stones at the attacker. The techie has been identified as Navin Kumar, a native of Natrampalli in Vellore. The girl is also from the same area.
Police said that the techie and the woman knew each other for six years. But for the last three weeks, she was ignoring his calls and messages.
The incident happened on the campus around 11 am on Monday, as soon Lavanya stepped out of the Thamarai Girls’ Hostel in which she was staying. “He confronted the girl in the university and a heated argument ensued. Suddenly, Navin pulled out a pen knife and slashed her neck,” said C Vijaya Kumar, SP, Cuddalore, said.
Lavanya, who sustained injuries on the neck, was rushed to the Rajah Muthiah Medical College and Hospital. Naveen Kumar, who was thrashed by locals was also admitted to a hospital.
