Lawyer booked for siphoning relief money
On the orders of the Madras High Court, the CB-CID police on Sunday registered a case against advocate Tamilarasan for misappropriating Rs 2-Rs 2.5 crore from the funds meant for the victims of the Kumbakonam school fire tragedy.

The case has been registered based on a complaint by R Dhivya (22) of Chathiram Karuppur Main Road, Kumbakonam, who was one of the school fire tragedy victims. Dhivya in her complaint filed with PM Thangavelu, the Deputy Superintendent of Police, CB-CID, Thanjavur said when the families of the victims of the school fire tragedy were grieved about a meagre compensation paid by the government and engaged Tamilarsan, an advocate from East Tambaram.Â
Based on the orders of the HC the state deposited the compensation into the bank accounts of the of victims’ kin and advocate Tamilarasan reportedly got two blank cheques each from them with signature in blank papers.Â
She added that her mother got a message that Rs 2.30 lakh was withdrawn. The bank told her that the amount was withdrawn through the cheque they had given to Tamilarasan. Based on the complaint, the CB-CID police registered a case against Tamilarasan under sections 409 (Criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating) of the IPC.
