    Houses of 11 BHEL staff burgled

    In an incident that has left residents shocked incident, houses of 11 senior officials of Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL) at the staff quarters in Ranipet were burgled in a single day on Sunday.

    Ranipet police have registered a case and are investigating the incident, in which cash and gold jewels were stolen. 

    The incidents occurred in the C block of the staff quarters adjacent to the BHEL BAP (Boiler Auxillaries Plant) unit on the Chennai-Chittoor road reportedly in the early hours of Sunday. 

    The inmates of the targeted houses were away as it was an extended weekend. The incidents came to light when neighbours noticed the locks and doors of the houses broken open. As 11 houses were targeted simultaneously, residents of the entire area were shocked. 

    On information, police rushed to the spot with sniffer dogs and conducted inquiries. Police said that the exact amount of cash lost would be known only after the return of the inmates of the houses. 

    This was the second time that burglars have targeted houses in the BHEL residential township. 

    On January 18, six houses in the same locality were burgled of cash to the tune of Rs 2 lakh. Further investigations are on to nab the culprits.
