School students will soon get additional marks, if they plant and nurture a tree, said Minister for School Education KA Sengottaiyan.
Coimbatore
Speaking to media, after inaugurating a primary health centre in Erode district on Monday, Sengottaiyan said that the government was planning to award additional marks for the proposed green initiative. “At the end of every academic year, the students will be evaluated based on their efforts in growing a tree and will be awarded additional marks,” he said.
“The government is already organising sapling plantation drives considering the changing climatic conditions. It has now been proposed for each student to plant and nurture a sapling. This will help to inculcate a sense of responsibility in them towards protecting the nature,” said Sengottaiyan.
Stating that 20,000 schools have been provided with internet facilities at a cost of Rs 20 lakh, the minister said that the newly framed syllabus for classes one, six, nine and 11 would be launched on Wednesday. The new syllabus has been developed on par with the standards of private schools.
Explaining various initiatives of the government, Sengottaiyan said, “around one lakh teachers have been trained by experts to teach students of government schools.
Soon all schools will be converted into smart classes. Also, about 3,145 students have been trained in nine colleges across TN to succeed in competitive exams like NEET.”
The minister also said that four different types of uniforms would be introduced for students studying in government schools.
