The proposed 1.341 km fourlane flyover from Aathupalam till Ukkadam junction is expected to ease traffic congestion on the arterial stretch.

Participating in the ‘bhoomi puja’ function for commencing flyover works, Municipal Administration Minister SP Velumani expressed hope that the 20 years demand of Coimbatore people for the flyover will be fulfilled soon.

Stating that rumours have been spread over change in building plan of the flyover, the minister said that the flyover is will be built as per original plan and people shouldn’t believe in the rumours. The minister said that talks are on with a Japanese firm for introducing Metro rail in Coimbatore.

To a query on the CMB issue, Velumani said, “We are maintaining cordial relationship with the Centre to get funds. However, the state government will never bow down when it comes to fighting for its rights. We don’t have any necessity to be slaves to anyone,” he said.
