50 percent increase in applicants to Central University of Tamil Nadu in Tiruvarur
The Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) based in Tiruvarur has received 60,000 applications this year, registering a 50 per cent increase against the 40,000 applications received last year.

A consortium of ten universities conducts the Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET) to select students for its post-graduate, five-year integrated and research programmes. Using this test, students from any part of the country can apply to any of these Central institutions.Â
In Tamil Nadu, CUCET 2018 was conducted for two days from April 27 at its campus in Tiruvarur along with other test centres in Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Nagercoil and Tiruchy. Across India, CUCET was conducted in 72 centres.Â
The Central University of Tamil Nadu offers three undergraduate, six integrated five year, one post-graduate diploma, 17 post-graduate, 14 M.Phil. and 21 Ph.D. programmes.  Â
A total of 2,657 candidates took up the entrance test in Tiruvarur centre alone this weekend.Â
The Central University of Tamil Nadu is an institution of higher education established by an Act of Parliament in 2009. The University is also participating in the MHRD initiative of Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA).
