Chief Minister praises medical infrastructure available in State
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, handed over appointment orders to 1,008 medical practitioners at a function organised here on Thursday.

At the event, he lauded the doctors who received appointment orders. Stating that college marks do not hold much importance he urged the newly-appointed doctors to rather focus on service.
Around 242 doctors, 337 nurses, 308 pharmacists, 90 radiographers, 21 block health statisticians, and 10 junior assistants received appointment orders, according a press release.
Praising the Tamil Nadu healthcare industry, the chief minister said that it is not only known for rendering service and care, but it is also the best in terms of infrastructure and human resource as well. “The government has been taking up a number of initiatives including the opening of new primary health centres (PHC), linear oscillators, MRI scan and CT Scan machines and installation of similar medical facilities,” Palaniswami said.
The Chief Minister also appreciated the efforts made by the Hand Transplant Department at Stanley Medical College and Hospital for the state’s first hand transplant surgery done early in February on an individual from Dindigul who had lost both his hands in an accident.
Since the launch of the Medical Recruitment Board in 2012, 10,858 doctors, 9,533 nurses, 1,323 nurses in PHCs and 2,166 other staff have been appointed, said Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, stressing on the immense growth the Health Department has been witnessing. “While Rs 3,888 crore was allotted in the budget for healthcare in 2010, over Rs 11,368.44 crore was allotted this year for healthcare alone,” he added.
