While various sections of people from the state have been fighting for the establishment of the CMB, women welfare organisations, including Sakthi Women Association, gathered on the dry Cauvery riverbed beneath the Cauvery Bridge and raised slogans against the Centre.
They demanded the BJP-led government to form the CMB for the welfare of the farmers, which would help in getting the due share of water for cultivation.
Stating that the Centre has been intentionally delaying in establishing the CMB, which has been ordered by the Supreme Court, the women members appealed that the Centre should act unbiased and treat all the states as equal.
“They have been delaying the formation of the CMB eyeing the Karnataka polls,” the protesters said, raising slogans.
They also pointed out that the Centre was acting as just a spectator when Karnataka government failed to obey the court’s order in earlier instances.
They said that the Delta region had already parched due to water scarcity and there is a fear of drinking water shortage too this year and the ground water level too had started to dip.
So, the Centre should initiate steps to form the CMB to help the people and the farmers from the drought condition.
