Research scholar Karuppasamy surrenders in Madurai court

Nirmala Devi had mentioned the names of MKU assistant professor Murugan and research scholar Karuppasamy when during investigations while in custody. 

She claimed that the duo had helped her communicate with the higher officials at the university. Following that, Murugan was summoned by CBCID and was arrested after two days of investigation. He was remanded for a day on Tuesday and was produced in the Sattur Court on Wednesday. 

Meanwhile, CBCID had filed a petition in the Court seeking custody of Murugan for 10 days but the Court had approved only five days, following which he was taken under CBCID custody. Later that day, Nirmala Devi was taken to Sattur Court by CBCID sleuths and as CBCID did not seek extension of custody for her. Court remanded her till May 9 and she was taken to Madurai Central Prison. Earlier in the day, Karuppasamy surrendered before Judicial Magistrate-V court in Madurai. 

In the Court, he claimed that he surrendered in the court as soon as he came to that he was wanted by CBCID in connection to Nirmala Devi.

Thereafter, Judge Sabina had remanded him under one-day custody as CBCID had expressed interest in taking him under custody. It is also expected that CBCID might file a petition to take Karuppasamy under their custody, on Thursday. Karuppasamy too was lodged in Madurai Central Prison.
