CM to be in Delhi during SC hearing on Cauvery
As tempers run high across the state over the non-implementation of the Cauvery final verdict, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami is likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Delhi visit scheduled on May 2 to participate in the meeting of National Committee (NC) on year-long celebrations of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

He is also expected to camp in Delhi for two-days and would follow the proceedings of the apex court regarding the non-implementation of the February 16 verdict.
The National Committee is chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and CMs from across the nation are defacto members of this forum which would bring forth several ideas to celebrate Gandhi’s birth anniversary.
Highly placed sources said the CM’s office has already sent out applications seeking time of the Prime Minister as regards to the Cauvery water dispute.
The CM’s visit to Delhi would gain significance as his Karnataka counterpart Siddaramaiah has recently shot off a letter to Modi on as to why the Cauvery Management Board (CMB) should not be constituted. Siddaramaiah too has sought time from Modi claiming that he wanted to explain the intricacies in the issue in person.
Palaniswami too has communicated to the PM’s office that the agenda of the meeting would be to explain the state’s stand that apex court’s orders paves way for the formation of the CMB and the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC).
Sources said the CM, who is likely to leave the city on the evening of May 1, would camp in Delhi for the next two days.
“He has expressed his willingness to follow the proceedings of the contempt plea filed by the state against the Centre for non-implementation of the February 16 verdict of the Supreme Court. The case would come up for hearing on May 3. The apex court has directed the Centre to frame a draft scheme and to submit the same before the Court on or before May 3,” a senior official said.
