TN medico seeks government help to write University exam
A Dalit medical student pursuing his post-graduate degree at the BJ Medical University in Ahmedabad has alleged that his name is not featured in the list of candidates who are eligible to write the upcoming examination. Dr M Mariraj has sought the help of the Tamil Nadu government to sort out the issue.

Mariraj complained of discrimination by his colleagues and professors at the university and said that his application was submitted with remarks by the professors earlier. Then, the Vice-Chancellor and examination controller demanded an explanation from the college over the remarks.
“Initially, the National Commission for Schedule Castes had instructed the officials of the college to send a form with no remarks and to ensure that I write the examinations with no trouble,” he said. The officials had agreed to the instructions then.
With only seven days left for the examinations to start, Mariraj is desperate for the state government to intervene and provide him support. “If I do not give my exams next month, I will have to wait for six months,” he added. “I do not think I will be able to appear for the exams, given the situation,” he said adding that, “What is worse is that no one from my state is taking any initiative to help me in this stage.”
However, a government official said, “If he wishes to move back to Tamil Nadu to continue his education, we are open to bring him. However, the MCI does not permit such transfers.”
