Rescued baby handed over to adoption home
A four-month-old girl rescued from her father, who tried to sell her for Rs one lakh, was handed over to an orphanage in Pollachi on Monday.
Coimbatore
Acting on a tip-off, staff from childline, a NGO for child protection, rescued the infant last Saturday from Thoppan (30), a daily wager hailing from Odisha and residing at Kumaran Nagar in Kavundampalayam. His wife gave birth to the baby girl on January 1 at a primary health centre in the neighbourhood. A week ago, the woman is suspected to have eloped with another man abandoning her baby. Following this, Thoppan had allegedly struck a deal to sell his baby for Rs one lakh to a childless couple. He was planning to leave for his home town after selling his baby. Â
However, the childline staff rescued the baby and handed it over to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH).Â
The baby was handed over to Kinathukadavu-based orphanage Saranalayam for future care on Monday. CMCH authorities said the infant is healthy and will be taken care of by the home.
