DMK gives space to CPM in party paper

The DMK has allotted almost a page for CPM state secretary K Balakrishnan’s speech delivered in the rally held at the culmination of “Cauvery Rights Retrieval Yatra” in Cuddalore over a week ago. In the same vein, the DMK has given generous space to the other left party, CPI’s state secretary R Mutharasan for the same event. 

Though one might attribute the generous spacing to paucity of the news in the DMK on Monday, more so after its working president MK Stalin had left the city for the human chain protest in Pudukkottai, party insiders conceded that the party was keen on keeping the CPM in good humour. “The CPM might have been undecided earlier, but we knew it is a matter of time before they gave in to the popular perception of their own cadre and expressed willingness to ally with our ally Congress,” reasoned a DMK leader requesting anonymity. 

Another leader argued that it was perhaps not the first instance that they have given wide publicity to left leaders in Murasoli. “Despite the statements issued by their party high command after the 2G verdict, we knew that we ought to maintain a workable relationship with the CPM state unit to face the BJP,” a district secretary said. 

Remarkably, space allocation for CPM in Murasoli was not the only surprise in the DMK on Monday. The DMK party organ had also carried news informing the participation of Udhayanidhi Stalin in the human chain between Pallavaram and Tambaram. As if that were not enough, Stalin’s wife Durga and his sister Selvi, who normally restrict to ring side view of grand conferences, on Monday participated in the human chain protest in the city.
