Seven country boats stationed in various coastal parts of the district such as Thengapattinam and Thottilpadu were completely damaged. More than 10,000 country boats abstained from venturing into the sea for fishing and the ferry service to Vivekananda Rock and Tiruvalluvar statue was suspended for the second day.Â
In Kanniyakumari district, sea water entered more than 300 houses at midnight and in Vallavilai, more than 500 people were shifted to a government school temporarily and food was supplied to them.Â
Five houses in the district collapsed and several houses developed cracks due to the high tide. A bike belonging to one Sanjay, from Colachel, was dragged into the sea and a journalist, Richard, working for a satellite TV, sustained injuries as he was caught in the high tide when he went to cover the news.Â
Due to the rough sea waters, beach sand was displaced and accumulated in large quantities on the coastal road between Thengapattinam to Ramanthurai, thereby disrupting connectivity to seven coastal villages. Close to 15 government bus services were also cancelled.
