Man gets 10-year RI for rape

The case registered at the Vellore All Women Police Station charged Satish alias Dayalan (27) of Shenbakkam in Vellore district, who was working as a van driver, of abducting a 13-year-old Class 8 student on September 13, 2014. He raped the girl in an isolated spot and allowed her to return home, but only after threatening her of dire consequences if she complained to anyone. 

When the girl became pregnant, her parents filed a complaint with the All Women Police Station. After an investigation, police arrested Dayalan. 

Mahila court judge S Madhusoodanan sentenced Dayalan to 13 years rigorous imprisonment under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. 

Following the pronouncement of the sentence, Dayalan was sent to Vellore central prison on Saturday.
