Unlike in the previous 21 years when they had to come to Chennai to attend the counselling, prospective students can now apply from their respective districts. To facilitate the online process, 44 admission facilitation centres will be set up across all districts of the state.

“The online counselling will be conducted in three phases. The government will set up facilitation centres in the state, with at least one per district. Students need to apply on their own or can avail assistance from these centres to apply,” sources said.

Officials from government and government aided colleges affiliated to the University, besides few from government arts and science colleges, will help students in these centres.

Explaining the procedure, an official stated, “Merit list, primarily based on the cut-off marks, will be prepared by the University for eligible candidates.” If more than one candidate has the same cut-off mark, students will be categorised based on their age with elder candidates being given preference.

If their date of birth is also similar, their fourth subject mark will be considered. Email or SMS will be sent to the students at every stage of the counselling process.

“After students complete their registration, the verification of certificates will be done by authorities in the centres. Students must visit the centres along with their original certificates,” the source explained.

The students will be grouped based on cut-off marks they secure. After they select colleges of their preference, one college, where seats are available, will be allotted to the candidates. Students who have been intimated should bring their allotment letter and documents to the centres during the admission process.
