According to police, Ramesh (51) of Chennai, a general manager at DIC, and Manoj Dharan, (30) of Salem, an assistant engineer, demanded Rs 30,000 to release the second instalment of the loan availed of by Ram Kumar (35) of Athiyamankottai under the NEEDS scheme.

After much bargaining, the duo agreed to take Rs 25,000 from him. Acting on information from Ram Kumar, the DVAC laid a trap and caught the duo red-handed when they received the bribe amount. Police said Ram Kumar was granted a loan of Rs 30 lakh for his laundry business and he was eligible for a Rs 7.5 lakh subsidy.
