Officials said villagers had spread information about the treasure, reportedly discovered when workers dug the ground for erecting pandhal for the Bommiamman temple festival, scheduled on April 16, in Kollapatti village.

After news of the supposed ‘treasure’ went viral, Thuraiyur Tahsildar Ravisankar went to the village on Wednesday and conducted an enquiry. However, the villagers had reportedly given him contradictory information.

Following this, Ravisankar approached the Thuraiyur police, who then decided to investigate the issue and trace the persons involved in the digging. Subsequently, the police went to Kollapatti village and conducted an inquiry. Since information about the ‘treasure’ continues to spread around, curious residents of nearby villages are visiting the Bommiamman temple.
