Plea in HC for court-monitored CBI probe in college professor case
Even as public outrage is gaining steam over college professor luring girls for sexual favours in exchange for money and marks, a Public Interest Litigation has been filed at the Madras High Court seeking transfer of the investigation to the CBI.

GS Mani, a Supreme Court advocate filed the PIL. The audio clip pertaining to Nirmala Devi’s conversation with some of the female students states that she is close to the Governor and lures female students into sex work for unknown influential persons in state authority.
But the Aruppukottai police who arrested her have filed a case against her under IPC Section 370 (trafficking of persons) and section 67 of the Information Technology Act without involving the influential persons in the FIR. This makes it clear that the police is trying to protect someone.
Also, referring to the reaction of Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit who ordered a high-level enquiry by a retired IAS officer R Santhanam, the petitioner expressed shock and surprise over the formation of such a committee. He added that “none can be a Judge for his own cause,” and the Centre should recall the Governor for a fair probe.
He also noted that, given the circumstances, it is clear that the police investigation and the judicial inquiry ordered by the Governor will tamper and destroy the entire investigation and evidence. Hence, a court-monitored CBI probe is just and necessary, the petitioner said.
